Day four on Freedom of the Seas!

Day four – in pain

I’m writing Day four’s Freedom of the Sea’s blog one day late, and it may be a short one.  I’m actually in day five and I think that I got stung by a baby stingray. (edit: Turns out it was a Bearded Fireworm, look it up.)  Let me tell you, it hurts like crazy. I’ll write more about that tomorrow….if my foot doesn’t fall off in the meantime.

Costa Maya

Let’s see….day four started out in Costa Maya.  We got woke up by someone calling the wrong room…twice…looking for Bud somebody.  Check your room numbers before you give strangers wake up calls, lol.  So, we decided to get up and have breakfast.  We weren’t going to be in Costa Maya until 11 am, so we had plenty of time to get ready.  We weren’t able to get an excursion, they were all sold out, so we decided to go and check out the port.

We’ve been in Costa Maya before, but they’ve definitely added onto the port area and improved it.  I loved it.  When you get off the ship there is a very long pier to walk.  There is a trolley about half way that will take you to the beginning of the port area.  It’s worth waiting for.  The port area is very nice.  There is plenty of shopping, a chocolate museum, a tequila museum, restaurants, a pool with a swim up bar, and an area with dolphins where you can do a dolphin encounter.  You’ll find that you can book excursions right at the port also.  We thought about it, but it was so hot and humid we decided not to.

Lunch in the Windjammer

After we shopped a while we went back to the ship and had lunch.  Everything was Caribbean themed.  Well, except the hot dogs and hamburgers.  The hotdogs are very good, and they even had really good saurkraut to go on it.  There’s a really nice Windjammer worker named Ronnie that we talk to when we’re in there.  I think he’s from the Philippines.  I just love the workers on the ships.  They get paid so little and are so nice.

After lunch my husband decided to go and explore a bit, and I went back to the port.  I wanted to get a souvenir pina colada in a palm tree glass, and then I went over to watch the dolphins in the port for a while longer.  Dolphins are one of my favorite animals.  The only souvenir I bought in Costa Maya was a painted dolphin figurine.  Mexico has some of the prettiest painted figurines of any place I’ve been.

Time to get ready for dinner

After that it was back to the room to take a shower and get ready for dinner.  I love the showers on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas.  Instead of curtains that don’t keep the water in, it has sliding doors.  Much better.

Dinner’s theme was Caribbean, and all the waiters had on colorful Caribbean shirts.  Our head waiter is Ni, and she’s from Bali.  She was telling us all about how crazy the traffic in Bali is, and how expensive the cars are, so everyone zips around on scooters.  We sat once again with Linda and Judi, and had a nice conversation.  I love meeting new people.  We’ve made some good friends on cruises.  I had the crab cakes, the pork loin with garlic mashed potatoes, and chocolate ice cream for dessert.  All were excellent.

Entertainment from America’s Got Talent

After dinner was the show.  Marcus Terrell and the Serenades.  They were finalists on America’s Got Talent way back when David Hasselhoff was a judge.  The show was wonderful!  They are great singers, and did all the Motown songs and other great songs.  This show is definitely one to see!  They sang for almost an hour, and it didn’t see that long at all, I’d have liked to hear more.  About the Arcadia theater….. it has plenty of comfortable seats, with two balconies.  We haven’t had a problem getting a seat at all.

Johnny Rockets

After that we ran to Johnny Rockets to get our buy one get one free milkshake deal for gold members.  I had chocolate, he had strawberry, both were good.  This is the first time I’d been in this Johnny Rockets.  They were a bit rushed because they didn’t have a lot of help, but they did a good job.

And more champagne

Then we went back to our cabin to discover a bottle of champagne in our room on ice.   This was the second bottle we got, I guess to make up for the mix up the first day.  I do have to say that Royal Caribbean made good.  When they goof up, they do make up for it, and I do appreciate it.  Thanks Royal Caribbean!

So, that’s it for today.  I’m going to my cabin to soak my foot in hot water.  Thankfully I don’t seem to be allergic to the venom.  My advice to you….never get stung by a stingray!

Talk to you tomorrow!
