We decided to go to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg because of a Memorial Day sale that they were holding. In looking for a place to stay with two bedrooms, I came across Vacation Village at Williamsburg. It had really good ratings on Expedia and was a really good price. Here is my review.
These vacation homes are more like townhouse apartments than hotels. We had a two bedroom apartment on the top floor of the two-story building, number 106B. My husband checked in and said that it was an easy check in. Then we had to drive a few streets down in this sprawling complex to find our apartment. There is an outer door, and then another door at your apartment, so it’s double security. Parking is located in front of your building.
Our first impression
When we first got into our apartment, I could smell the slight scent of marijuana. Now, I have a super nose, and marijuana is my least favorite smell. It gives me an immediate headache. So, we went to the Walmart that’s located about ten minutes away, and picked up some Febreze.
Once we got back to the apartment, I sprayed the Febreze then we opened up the patio door and aired out the apartment. The nice thing is that the sliding door also has a sliding screen door, so that worked out well and eventually the apartment smelled better. Smoking is allowed outside on the patio, and the ash tray had not been cleaned out from the people before us.
So, my first impression wasn’t the best, but it did improve over time once the smell cleared out.

The rooms
This hotel is definitely more like an apartment grouping. Our room had two nice sized bedrooms, one with a King bed and one with a Queen bed. Each bedroom had a full bathroom, a closet, a dresser, and a TV. No USB plugs. One of the bedrooms had a safe in the closet. The living room had a sofa bed with a coffee table, and two chairs, along with a large TV. The living room also had a fireplace but we could not figure out how to turn it on.
The master bath was huge. It had a walk in shower and a whirlpool tub, plus a double vanity and a water closet for the toilet. The whirlpool worked well, just beware how much bubble bath you put in, because you will have a lot of bubbles in that tub. It’s large and big enough for two.
The Dining room/kitchen area was open to the living room, and had a table for 6, a full sized refrigerator with ice maker, a microwave (although ours was missing a leg and was wobbly), dishwasher, dishes, glassware and cups, silverware and utensils, a blender, a coffee maker, induction stovetop with pans, a can opener, a toaster, electric frying pan, and extras like dishwasher and dish soap, laundry soap, paper towels, potholders, towels, and coffee. There was no stopper in the sink.
There is a washing machine and dryer outside in the hall on the upper level behind a door. I’m not sure about the bottom level. They provide detergent for one wash load. Also, in the kitchen area closet are a clothes basket and a vacuum cleaner, plus an iron and an ironing board.
The place was very clean and besides the marijuana smell at the beginning, there were no problems. The beds were comfortable, although the pillows were rather small. Bring your own if you like larger pillows. We did have to contact housekeeping once because we could not get the remote control to work on the TV’s. I finally thought that maybe the remotes had gotten mixed up and put in the wrong rooms, and that turned out to be the problem. After that, all was well. Note that there is no daily housekeeping in this hotel. They provided enough towels, so that was fine with us. I would definitely stay here again.
Miscellaneous
We didn’t use the pool or any of the other facilities, so I can’t comment on them. The pool did look clean though, and large. We did hear the lawn staff trimming trees at about 9 am our second morning, but we were already up so it didn’t bother us. Some of the units are backed by woods, like ours was, and some were backed up to other buildings. There are grills at each unit, and picnic tables behind the apartments. It looked like there was a small play area down from our apartment.
Check out
Check out is at 10 am. You have to take the trash with you and dump it in one of the areas with the large trash cans. You put the used towels on the floor by the tub and put all used dishes in the dishwasher and turn it on before you leave.
